Di Natale Wants To Break Baggios Streak

Udinese and Italian international striker Antonio Di Natale has revealed that he wants to break Roberto Baggio’s goal record in the Italian Serie A. Roberto Baggio is regarded as one of the greatest strikers to have represented Italian football. The former Juventus, AC Milan, and Inter Milan attacking midfielder scored 205 league goals, which is a record that still stands. However, Di Natale is close to equalling, if not surpassing the record. The 36-year-old has been a flag bearer for Udinese since moving to the club in 2004. He has made more than 300 league appearances.

His biggest achievement so far has been scoring close to 200 goals in the league. He remains only 12 short of Roberto Baggio’s record. Since this famous record is in sight, Di Natale says that he postponed his decision to announce his retirement from football. He would have not expected to come close to this record, but 17 league goals last season was a major factor. After having scored 15 goals in each of the last five seasons, Di Natale will be extremely confident of scoring another 15 in the coming campaign. This would be enough to create a record that many players would dream about.

His first priority for the coming campaign, though, will be to get the club back into European football.

“I am seven goals away from achieving 200. It would be even better, to equal the record of Roberto Baggio’s 205 goals. [Owner] Giampaolo Pozzo spurred me on and the good relationship with the fans and the city did the rest. The Colombian [Muriel] is not fully aware of his potential and must now prove to he is a phenomenon. There are so many strikers in the team and everyone can express themselves in different roles, the coach will choose the tactics that best suits our features,” said the striker.
